According to a report, some parts of MJF's pipe bomb promo on AEW Dynamite didn't go the way they were supposed to.

MJF is in the professional wrestling spotlight again after cutting an energetic and passion-filled promo for the ages on this week's episode of AEW Dynamite.

A lot was said during MJF's pipe bomb promo. He spent time complaining about the many critical fans, referenced the fact that there are ex-WWE talents on the roster and even asked AEW President and CEO Tony Khan to fire him. MJF's microphone was eventually cut, and AEW has since removed his merchandise as well as his name from the company website.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), Dave Meltzer wrote that some parts of MJF's pipe bomb promo didn't actually go according to plan. Meltzer reported that the plan was for MJF "to do a heel promo, and then in mid-promo, his mic would be cut off, with the idea that it’s a shoot and all of this was unplanned."

Of course, MJF wound up receiving plenty of cheers from the crowd throughout the promo. Meltzer noted that it "was clearly not the plan", adding that the cheers from the fans "made the promotion seem cool."

MJF and Khan reportedly got into a tense argument back in March after the former chose to do an interview with ESPN's Ariel Helwani without receiving permission from AEW beforehand. MJF no-showed a meet-and-greet event last weekend, leading to speculation that he wouldn't show up to Double or Nothing. But MJF ultimately appeared at the event, losing his singles match to Wardlow.

Amid speculation that MJF could look to leave AEW, it's important to note that his contract with the company doesn't expire until 2024. Vince McMahon is reportedly very interested in signing MJF, but he's going to have to wait a while longer unless AEW decides to outright release MJF. And given his value to the company, it's a little difficult to envision that scenario taking place any time soon.
