Steel Mains has recently hosted the managing directors from all four Melbourne metro water authorities (Melbourne Water, Yarra Valley Water, Greater Western Water and South East Water) for a visit to the company’s manufacturing facility in Somerton.

Dr Nerina Di Lorenzo, Maree Lang, Lara Olsen and Pat MacCafferty all had the opportunity to witness first-hand the processes of local Melbourne based manufacturing of Sintakote Mild steel pipe and fittings for use in critical water distribution assets.

Representing Steel Mains at the walk-through was CEO, Dean Connell, Plant Manager, Javed Warsi, National Sales & Marketing Director, Rodney Glocer and Joe El Zein, Regional Sales Manager.

As a proud Australian local manufacturer, Steel Mains values the long-standing relationships it has Melbourne Water, Yarra Valley Water, Greater Western Water and South East Water. The company anticipates being a major solutions provider for their critical water infrastructure projects well into the future.

Steel Mains is the leading manufacturer of Steel Pipeline’s and fittings for the water industry, providing world class jointing systems, external corrosion protection and internal corrosion protection linings. In fact, Steel Mains has been manufacturing Steel Pipelines in Australia for over 100 years.

The company’s product range includes Steel Pipes manufactured to AS1579, various jointing systems including Rubber Ring Joint (RRJ), welded joints Spherical Slip In Joint (SSJ) and Ball and Socket Joint (BSJ).

Likewise, Steel Mains also provides the combination of a rubber ring joint with an external weld known as our Sintalock Joint; with internal and external protection systems that are world leading.

The external protection system is known as Sintakote, which is a fusion bonded polyethylene coating, capable of withstanding the harshest conditions, below ground or above ground. Furthermore, the internal coating commonly used is cement lining. We are also able to apply Calcium Aluminate Cement lining for more aggressive fluids, and Sintakote lining which is known as Sintapipe.
