OMAHA, Neb., May 05, 2022--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Valmont Industries, Inc., a global leader that provides vital infrastructure and advances agricultural productivity while driving innovation through technology, accepted six Excellence in Hot-Dip Galvanizing Awards at the American Galvanizers Association (AGA) Annual Conference.
Presented by the AGA, the Excellence in Hot-Dip Galvanizing Awards attracts over 100 project submissions to compete in 15 categories. Highlighting unique, impressive, and monumental uses of galvanized steel, the project submissions celebrate the sustainable and long-lasting benefits hot-dip galvanizing delivers. During the annual conference on April 6, 2022, Valmont Coatings was recognized for its contributions to outstanding projects across the globe, receiving an impressive six awards.
"We are honored to play such a vital role in protecting steel used in a variety of industries. The inherent sustainability, coupled with long-lasting durability, and ease of specification make hot-dip galvanizing the ideal solution for corrosion control over the life of a project. This results in a more reliable product with fewer construction interruptions due to repairs and replacements. That’s the value we add," commented Rick Cornish, president, Global Coatings.
Our Mississauga, Ontario galvanizing plant won the Transportation award with the Bramalea GO Transit Station. As part of the GO transit redevelopment plan to drastically increase the number of train and bus rides daily, the Bramalea Station targeted improving the customer experience and overall passenger safety. The specification of galvanized steel was critical to the longevity of the structure due to the highly corrosive environment caused by deicing salts in the winter and high levels of exhaust fumes year-round.
Galvanized in Valley, NE, the 2512-01 Underwater Pipe Carrier won in the Water & Marine category as an innovative solution to repairing the nation’s freshwater tunnel systems. The equipment allows teams to repair and reline damaged portions of tunnels, which is more economical and efficient than constructing replacements. Due to the harsh environment and rugged work requirements, hot-dip galvanizing was the ideal choice for protecting steel components.
The artistic category features the incredible work of talented artists and it is an honor to be trusted with the galvanizing of such masterpieces. This year, the artistic category was awarded to our Williamstown, NJ plant for a sculpture paying tribute to two recently retired Manchester City Football Club players. Residing at Etihad Stadium in the United Kingdom, the sculptures capture meaningful poses from impactful moments in their careers. Hot-dip galvanizing will ensure the statues remain a permanent, visible reminder of the players’ contributions to the most decorated era in club history.
In the Original Equipment Manufacturing category, airport and cargo handling equipment caught the attention of judges due to the increasing importance of reliable transportation equipment. Initially, the manufacturer painted its products but quickly learned a painted finish would not hold up in the tough environment. Valmont’s Miami, FL galvanizing plant helped them understand the benefits of switching to galvanizing. Today, the steel equipment is protected from rusting and from the damages caused by the constant, heavy workloads.
The International category recognized the Valmont Coatings team in Australia for their unique work on a Salmon Farm Reconfiguration project. For this project, the specifiers already understood galvanizing was the best option for the marine application. The big challenges came with logistics, handling and installation. Components had to be shipped from Tasmania to Victoria for galvanizing and then back for installation. Daily communication and timing were critical to ensure minimal disruption to the operating fish farm while working around the tides.
Finally, Valmont Coatings was recognized with the Industrial Category award for its work galvanizing equipment for Evrovneshtorg’s grain port terminal situated on the Black Sea in Mykolaiv, Ukraine. The equipment was galvanized over 5,000 miles away at Valmont’s West Point, NE site and shipped across the ocean to the installation location.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -U.S. President Joe Biden on Friday accused the U.S. oil industry, and Exxon Mobil Corp in particular, of capitalizing on a supply shortage to fatten profits after a report showed inflation surging to a new 40-year record. Biden, who came into office vowing to reduce U.S. dependence on fossil fuels, said on Friday he was hoping to speed up oil production, which is expected to hit record highs in the United States next year. But he also issued a warning to the industry, whose profits have jumped with oil and gas prices, pointing to the gains as evidence consumers are paying for more than higher labor and shipping costs.
The relaunch will begin on Russia Day, a patriotic holiday celebrating the country's independence, at the same flagship location in Moscow's Pushkin Square where McDonald's first opened in Russia in January 1990. In the early 1990s, as the Soviet Union crumbled, McDonald's came to embody a thawing of Cold War tensions and was a vehicle for millions of Russians to sample American food and culture. The brand's exit is now a powerful symbol of how Russia and the West are once again turning their backs on each other.
